The intensive seven day Bear Grylls Survival Academy challenge run in partnership with the M6toll and Midlands Air Ambulance Charity will take place in the harsh wilderness of Zimbabwe under the guidance of expert instructors trained by Bear’s Man v Wild/Born Survivor crew.
Tracey is currently in training to participate in the challenge designed to test courage, determination, instinct, fitness, resourcefulness and self-reliance. She has previously taken part in other intensive challenges and last year scaled Mount Kilimanjaro along with a team of adventurous Capula employees, helping to raise over £14,000 for the Midlands Air Ambulance Charity.
For the Bear Grylls Survival Academy challenge, the initial training received on arrival at the bush camp in the Nakavango Conservation centre in Victoria Falls will equip the team of ten with skills needed to complete a final 36 hour expedition where they will find themselves trapped in a gorge, on a beach and alone as a team for the night. The following morning the team will need to traverse, climb and paddle their way back alone, but there will only be a narrow window of opportunity to catch the helicopter pick-up back to civilisation. All of this will take place across rugged, open African terrain where lions, rhinos and giraffes to name a few will be roaming around in the immediate vicinity.
“I can’t wait to enjoy this experience of a lifetime. It’s a fantastic opportunity to learn new skills such as night tracking, stalking, navigating, building survival shelters, finding, purifying and filtering rancid water, foraging for wild food and most importantly making and lighting fires to hopefully keep anything hostile away from the overnight camp,” said Tracey. “I’ve had so much support from my family, friends and colleagues, in fact I’m on track to raise £5,000 for the charity.”
The Midlands Air Ambulance Charity operates emergency services across six Midland counties in areas that standard ambulance crews find difficult to reach. Donations can be made through Tracey’s Just giving page: https://www.justgiving.com/Tracey-Francis-Africa-Challenge
